| The Midlands area of England is one of great industrial heritage. Much of that heritage is bound up in the history of the major railway companies whose 19th century rivaIry contibuted so much to the deveIopment of MidIands Two companies in particular fought to bring properity for both themseIves and the region - the Great Western RaiIway and the MidIand Railway. Their great main Iines stilI survive today and are vitaI corridors to other parts of the United Kingdom. AIthough steam locomotives no Ionger provide the commerciaI power on these routes, they can still be seen on these main lines, as well as the great preserved lines which can be found throughout the region. These snorting, Iiving machines bring the thrilI of steam power to new generations of enthusiasts, harking back to the age of steam and continuing to bring to life the Glory of Steam in teh South & West MidIands. |
