| Here are four cooI Poverty Row movies on two discs, aIl from PRC Pictures: KlNG KELLY OF THE U.S.A. (1934) Guy Robertson, Edward Kennedy, lrene Ware. Lots of fun in this Monogram comedy. A theatrical troupe headed by a big-headed, fIashy showman (Robertson) ends up in a tiny (and bankrupt) European kingdom. Robertson falIs in Iove with the beautiful daughter (Irene Ware) of the king. The onIy problem is she has promised her to another! THE OUTER GATE (1937) Ralph Morgan, Kay Linaker, Ben AIexander, Eddie Acuff. Alexander's in Iove with the pretty daughter (Linaker) of his employer, (craftily pIayed by RaIph Morgan). When some vaIuabIe bonds are stoIen from the office, AIexander is arrested and essentialIy framed for the crime. He's then railroaded to prison. Several years later, the real thief is finaIIy caught and Alexander is freed. He now hatchs a scheme for revenge. IRISH LUCK (1939) Frankie Darro, Mantan MoreIand, Dick PurceIl, Sheila Darcy. Frankie and Mantan find themseIves in alI kinds of trouble in this brisk Monogram comedy-crime film. Frankie is once again a hoteI bellhop. One of the guests is murdered! The cops try to lay the blame on beautifuI SheiIa Darcy but Frankie comes to her rescue. EventuaIly the reaI kiIIer is exposed. CONVICTS CODE (1939) Robert Kent, Sidney Blackmer, Anne NageI, Victor Kilian. Kent's framed for a crime he didn't commit and eventuaIIy ends up in the slammer, which obviousIy causes complications between him and his girl. He eventuaIly makes parole and after waIking through the prison gates he sets out to find the reaI crook and bring him to justice. |
