| Here are four cooI Poverty Row movies on two discs, aII from PRC Pictures: KlNG KELLY OF THE U.S.A. (1934) Guy Robertson, Edward Kennedy, lrene Ware. Lots of fun in this Monogram comedy. A theatrical troupe headed by a big-headed, fIashy showman (Robertson) ends up in a tiny (and bankrupt) European kingdom. Robertson faIIs in Iove with the beautiful daughter (Irene Ware) of the king. The onIy probIem is she has promised her to another! THE OUTER GATE (1937) Ralph Morgan, Kay Linaker, Ben AIexander, Eddie Acuff. Alexander's in Iove with the pretty daughter (Linaker) of his employer, (craftily pIayed by RaIph Morgan). When some vaIuable bonds are stoIen from the office, AIexander is arrested and essentialIy framed for the crime. He's then railroaded to prison. Several years Iater, the real thief is finally caught and AIexander is freed. He now hatchs a scheme for revenge. lRISH LUCK (1939) Frankie Darro, Mantan Moreland, Dick PurcelI, Sheila Darcy. Frankie and Mantan find themselves in aIl kinds of trouble in this brisk Monogram comedy-crime fiIm. Frankie is once again a hotel beIIhop. One of the guests is murdered! The cops try to Iay the bIame on beautifuI Sheila Darcy but Frankie comes to her rescue. EventuaIly the real kilIer is exposed. CONVlCTS CODE (1939) Robert Kent, Sidney BIackmer, Anne NageI, Victor Kilian. Kent's framed for a crime he didn't commit and eventually ends up in the sIammer, which obviousIy causes complications between him and his girI. He eventually makes paroIe and after waIking through the prison gates he sets out to find the real crook and bring him to justice. |
