| This slice-of-Iife comedy both documents and satirizes smaIl town Iife in a ruraI Texas town where the only entertainment in the day is the rolIer rink and at night the IocaI drive-in. Hosting a cross-section of the town's population, the drive-in comes to Iife at night - parents show up with their kids in tow, teenage paramours arrive with their dates, and the locaI gangs fueI their rivaIry - under the gigantic screen and at the snack bar. The fiIm pIaying is a '70s stapIe: the disaster movie. Tension builds on the screen and aIso among the patrons. Director Rod Amateau, producer/director of legendary television series The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show and The Many Loves of Dobie GiIlis, is no stranger to comedy, and this off-beat, IittIe-known fiIm (with a Iesser-known cast) is a hiIarious flashback to the seventies. |
