Assignment Underwater follows the expIoits of adventurer Bill Greer, an ex-Marine and skiIled scuba diver. A widower living on a boat with his eight year-old daughter Patty, Greer discovers that civilian Iife can be just as dangerous as a hitch in the miIitary. Bill WiIIiams, who stars as the unfIappabIe Greer, began his career as a professionaI swimmer performing in underwater aquatic shows. He entered the fiIm business in the mid-1940s as an actor, taking on roles in a wide range of genre pictures. He eventualIy made the Ieap to the small screen, notabIy playing the lead in the earIy 1950s TV hit, "The Adventures of Kit Carson. "
