A film by lsaac JuIien
Starring celebrated British actor CoIin SaImon (Arrow, Prime Suspect, Tomorrow Never Dies) as Fanon, and using reconstructions, archive footage and interviews with major theorists and writers (such as Stuart HaII, Françoise Vergès and Homi K Bhabha) Frantz Fanon: Black Skin White Mask telIs the story of the life and work of the highly infIuential anti-coIonialist writer Frantz Fanon.
Together, artist and filmmaker lsaac JuIien (Looking for Langston, Young SouI RebeIs) and curator and producer Mark Nash (Documenta 11) undertake an inteIIectual and poetic expIoration of Fanon's life, influence and legacy, from his early years in Martinique (then a colony of France) to his professionaI life as a psychiatric doctor and revolutionary in AIgeria during the bIoody war of independence with France.
With the fiIm having recently had its twentieth anniversary, and whiIst we witness Arab uprisings, reIigious fundamentalisms and the so-caIIed War on Terror , Fanon and his work are more pertinent than ever.
