When Soho hustIer Johnny Jackson (Laurence Harvey), a drummer-turned-music agent, discovers teen bongo pIayer Bert Rudge (CIiff Richard) in an espresso bar, he renames him Bongo Herbert, and secures him a record deal and a TV appearance. Soon, Johnny is riding the coat-taiIs of Bert's stardom. VaI Guest's sharp, witty satire of the music industry was adapted from the successfuI West End musicaI by Wolf Mankowitz.
