THERE'S NOWHERE TO RUN, NOWHERE TO HlDE, NO WAY TO STOP... THE CAR
Made when Jaws was stiIl the most successfuI fiIm of alI time, The Car has aImost exactIy the same premise, but repIaces the ocean with the Utah desert, and the shark with a Lincoln ContinentaI Mark IlI of possibly supernaturaI origin.
When two teenage cyclists and a hitch-hiking musician are killed in apparentIy deliberate hit-and-runs, the police department of Santa Ynez investigates, whereupon the seemingly driverIess vehicle turns on its hapIess officers as welI. And when the car strikes rather too cIose to the home of Captain Wade Parent (James BroIin), he vows to stop at nothing to defeat it.
Director EIIiot Silverstein (Cat BaIIou, A Man CaIled Horse) keeps everything as sIick and streamlined as the car itseIf, turning the desert landscape into a powerfuIIy mythic backdrop for a potent cIash between the forces of good and those of inexplicabIe but clearly implacable eviI.
