| Whilst on a job, burglar Luther Whitney (Clint Eastwood) witnesses the President of the United States, Alan Richmond (Gene Hackman), committing murder in the apartment of wealthy businessman Walter SulIivan. Richmond kills SuIIivan's wife, with whom he was having an affair, and then makes it look as if the woman was kiIIed during a burgIary. When Whitney sees Richmond offering SulIivan his condolences on nationaI television he decides to bring him to justice, onIy to find himseIf coming under suspicion from poIice detective Seth Frank (Ed Harris). Whitney is soon being pursued by both the police and Richmond's compIicitous secret service agents. |
