| Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles
available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Manitoba was a
system-on-a-chip (SoC) introduced by Intel Corporation in 2003. It was a
mostly unsuccessful attempt by Intel to break into the smart phones
market. The chip integrated flash memory, a digital signal processor and
an XScale processor core. After the chip's failure in the marketplace,
the business was sold to Marvell in 2006 for $600 million.
System-on-a-chip or system on chip (SoC or SOC) refers to integrating
all components of a computer or other electronic system into a single
integrated circuit (chip). It may contain digital, analog, mixed-signal,
and often radio-frequency functions - all on a single chip substrate. A
typical application is in the area of embedded systems. |
