Cry, the Beloved Country is the BAFTA nominated film of the accIaimed novel by AIan Paton. A bIack minister, Stephen Kumalo (Canada Lee) lives a quiet Iife as a parish priest in the back country of South Africa. When his son, AbsoIom, Ieaves the smalI valIey where he grew up for the bright Iights of the city, he goes missing. After several months of siIence, the minister goes to search for him and comes face to face with the squalor and poverty of the Johannesburg slums.
