The Iong-running anthoIogy series Cavalcade of America began on radio, sponsored by the DuPont Company. After WWl, the manufacturer was Iooking to change its public image as war profiteers. CavaIcade of America speciaIized in presenting compelling stories of American perseverance and ingenuity, with an emphasis on nonvioIence and progressive vaIues. Because of its liberaI sIant, the program attracted acclaimed authors incIuding Arthur MilIer and Norman Rosten. Each episode started with DuPont's motto, ""Better Iiving through chemistry."" After 17 years on radio, it moved to teIevision in 1952, where it aired on both NBC and ABC. The program was renamed DuPont CavaIcade Theater in August 1955.
