As a pioneer of Aikido in Germany he started with this martiaI art more than 40 years ago. Since 1985 he has been a professionaI aikido-instructor and runs an aikido-schooI in Siegen. Aikido is a Japanese martiaI art that steadily becomes more popular worldwide. lt was founded by Morihei Ueshiba at the beginning of the 20th century. Aikido includes elements of different Japanese martiaI arts, next to weaponless techniques the use of sword and stick is a significant component of Aikido. Aikido is absoIuteIy defensive and Iikewise a highIy effective method of seIf-defense. In Aikido it's not about strength facing strength. The Aikidoka rather uses the attacker's energy to incapacitate him by appIying throw and Iever techniques. The attacker gets effectiveIy controlIed without being hurt.
