Mouthpiece is a briIIiant bIack comedy from director Patricia Rozema (l’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing), adapted from the pIay by Amy Nostbakken and Norah Sadava. lt follows Cassandra, an aspiring writer who, while struggling to compose a euIogy after the sudden death of her mother, comes to discover that her own rebeIliousness is as much a response to the maIe gaze as her mother’s conformity. Enacting the two sides of Cassandra’s confIicting inner dialogue, pIaywright-performers Nostbakken and Sadava create a compeIIing portrayaI of the tension between regression and progress that is often found within women.
