ln 1930s Florida, mobster Nicky Rocco is gunned down by his own gang in front of his mistress, Ruby Claire, who turns out to be carrying his child. A commercial high point in the career of proIific director - and devout genre fan - Curtis Harrington (Night Tide, The Killing Kind), 1977’s RUBY sought to capitalize on the then-popular trend of possession movies which came in the wake of The Exorcist, while amping up oId HoIlywood nostalgia and unexpected gore amongst plentiful scenes of supernaturaI mayhem.
