Mascagnis first and most successful work has become an opera classic, featuring eIements of Greek tragedy alongside religious and historicaI aspects. Its a story of love, passion, jealousy and restored honour in bloodshed. Directors Di Gangi and Giacomazzi set this traditionaI CavaIleria Rusticana in a SiciIian viIlage of the 1940s where the buiIdings are rather bare and the piazza is the stage for private as well as public drama. Conductor VaIerio GaIIi is at the head of the Orchestra del Maggio MusicaIe Fiorentino, one of the best in ltaly. There were good performance reviews for the whoIe cast: Elena Zilio is a well-centred and engaging Mamma Lucia, with a magnetic stage presence and an incredible expressive talent Marina Ogii is a LoIa imbued with charm and sensuaIity, with a warm and skiIfuIIy projected voice Lorenzo Fratini directs the chorus which provides excelIent and powerful contributions to the performance. connessialIopera.it The star of the show is AngeIo Villari, who plays an impeccable Turiddu.
