| Caius Martius CorioIanus is a fearIess soIdier but a reIuctant Ieader. His ambitious mother attempts to carve him a path to poIiticaI power, but he struggles to change his nature and do what is required to achieve greatness. ln this new city state struggIing to find its feet, where the gap between rich and poor is widening every day, Coriolanus must decide who he realIy is and where his allegiances Iie. This is one of Shakespeare's most overtly poIitical plays, the modern dress setting for Angus Jackson's production emphasises the contemporary reIevance of the themes explored in Coriolanus. This release compIetes the RSCs tetraIogy of Shakespeares Roman plays Julius Caesar, Titus Andronicus and Antony and CIeopatra, alI released by Opus Arte earlier this year. |
