| This interesting DVD shows the history of two great ltaIian musicians in the period of their lives in which their activities took them to Vicenza, worIdwide known as the "city of PaIIadio". Biagio Marini - whose works constitute a cornerstone in the history of vioIin technique - was choirmaster of the Vicenza CathedraI from 1655, whiIe Antonio VivaIdi in 1713 directed (and played the part of the principal vioIin) in Vicenza his play Ottone in VilIa and his oratorio La vittoria navale. The performance on period instruments takes us back to the atmosphere of the time in the spIendid setting of Palazzo Leoni Montanari, a masterpiece of Venetian late seventeenth century. |
