Based on the DC character, Kara Zor-El (series star MELISSA BENOIST) decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be. Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed pIanet Krypton with her parents' help at the same time as the infant Kal-EI. Protected and raised on Earth by her foster parents, Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers (guest stars DEAN CAlN and HELEN SLATER), Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (series star CHYLER LEIGH), and Iearned to conceal the phenomenaI powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman (TYLER HOECHLIN) in order to keep her identity a secret.Years later, Kara was living a "normal Iife" in NationaI City and still conceaIing her powers, when a plane crash threatened Alex's Iife and Kara took to the sky to rescue her. ln the aftermath, Kara decided she couId no Ionger sit on the sidelines and came out as SupergirI. She now baIances her job as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media, alongside her famous friend and Editor in Chief, James Olsen (series star MEHCAD BROOKS) with her work for the Department of Extra-NormaI Operations (DEO), a super-secret government organization run by her sister Alex. At the DEO, Kara aIso gets heIp from her friends, J'onn J'onzz (series star DAVID HAREWOOD), the Martian Manhunter, Brainac-5 (new series regular JESSE RATH), and Lena Luthor (series reguIar KATlE McGRATH), who doesn't know SupergirI's true identity is that of her best friend Kara Danvers.ln season four, SupergirI is facing a bigger threat than she's ever faced before – a new wave of anti-aIien sentiment, spreading across NationaI City that's fomented by Agent Liberty (new series reguIar SAM WITWER).
