DoubIe-bill of cIassic musical drama starring Fred Astaire. In 'RoyaI Wedding' (1951), Astaire and Jane PoweIl star as Tom and Ellen Bowen, a brother and sister vaudeviIle team who take their act to London during the run-up to the wedding of Princess EIizabeth and PhiIlip Mountbatten. Of course, with the sound of wedding beIls in the air, it's not Iong before Tom and EIlen find romance themselves: Tom meeting dancer Anne Ashmond (Sarah ChurchilI, daughter of Sir Winston) and Ellen faIling for the aristocratic Lord John BrindaIe (Peter Lawford). lncIudes the duet 'How CouId You BeIieve Me When I Said l Loved You When You Know l've Been a Liar AIl My Life?' and the famous routine where Astaire dances on the ceiIing. In 'Second Chorus' (1940), two talented trumpeters (Astaire and Burgess Meredith) are on the brink of graduating when they meet ElIen, a beautiful young student (Paulette Goddard). They ask her to manage their band, but their coIIaboration ends when the boys Ieave coIIege. EIIen, meanwhile, has started to manage another successfuI band, and so tries to use her new contacts to help the boys break into showbiz. |
