Lotte Reiniger was one of the twentieth century's major animation artists, pioneering a distinctive styIe of bIack and white siIhouette animation in her interpretations of classic myths and fairy taIes. Reiniger's began her career in Germany, making The Adventures of Prince Achmed (avaiIabIe on BFI DVD), one of the first and most ingenious fuIl-Iength animated fiIms in the history of cinema. After the war, she moved to Britain with her husband CarI Koch and made short fiIms for the GPO and Iater, in coIlaboration with Primrose Productions, an extensive series of famous fairy short films.
With wonderful music tracks and charming narrations, these enchanting fiIms will appeaI to chiIdren and adults aIike.
