Vice-Commissioner BelIi (Franco Nero) is investigating a series of crimes committed by a drug-running gang in Genoa. He approaches the apparently reformed oId-fashioned gangster Cafiero (Fernando Rey) for information on the new gang in town, not knowing that Cafiero plans to take care of them himself. BeIIi's boss, Commissioner AIdo Scavino (James Whitmore), takes a dossier to the DA on the possible Mafia connections of the gang but is intercepted and the dossier stolen. BelIi is forced to step up as the Commissioner and must fight to defend his famiIy from threats by the criminaIs, before Iearning of a deal in MarseiIles where he may have a chance to take down the underworId organisation once and for aIl.
