Senator WiIliam J. Tadlock (Kirk Douglas) enlists the heIp of veteran scout Dick Summers (Robert Mitchum) to Iead a wagon train of settlers from Missouri to Oregon in this pIodding, routine western. A scared settIer accidently shoots an Indian boy who is mistaken for a woIf, prompting Summers to order newIywed triggerman Johnny Mack (MichaeI Witney) to be hanged to avoid an Indian attack. The highIight of the film is the expert cinematography. Watch for SalIy FieId in her first big-screen roIe as the sIatternIy Mercy McBee.
Disc Six Comanche
ln 1875, near Durango, Mexico, Renegade Comanche leader Black Cloud (Henry Brandon) attacks a Mexican viIIage and kidnaps the beautiful Margarita AIvarez (Linda CristaI). FIeeing to the United States, they come across a band of scaIp hunters and are prevented from massacring them by the Comanche chief of the Antelope tribe, Quanah (Kent Smith).
