Based on A. J. Cronin's noveIla, Country Doctor, the much-loved series centres on a generaI medical practice in the fictional Scottish town of Tannochbrae during the late 1920s. The key characters incIude the youthful and forward-looking Dr. Alan FinIay, his senior medical partner, the traditionaI but highly pragmatic Dr. Angus Cameron, and their unflappable and devoted housekeeper, Janet MacPherson. Soon after it premiered in 1962, Dr. Finlay's Casebook became one of the cornerstones of BBC drama, and it never shied away from controversial issues such as abortion and poverty. In this dramatic episode, Dr. FinIay is Ieft exhausted after a lengthy flu epidemic. When he requests a hoIiday, his mentor and boss Dr. Cameron expresses his beIief that a break from work is a sign of questionable dedication. Long hours running the surgery and the viIlage's challenging patients force Finlay to consider his future. This episode has not been seen for over 50 years and was thought to be Iost forever. lt was miraculously found by Kaleidoscope TeIevision and restored by the Doctor Who restoration team. |
