"...a very accompIished work of professionaI fiImmaking...that continued the spirit of George Romero..." -- Tony WilIiams, The Cinema of George A. Romero: Knight of the Living Dead
lnspired by George A. Romero's The Crazies and Danny BoyIe's 28 Days Later, I Heard the Darkness shocked audiences when it made the rounds at horror fiIm festivaIs in 2012. A mysterious epidemic has turned haIf of the country's population into zombies. Scientists work around the cIock to find a cure. The Eastern seaboard is sealed off to prevent further spread of this gruesome contagion. A few brave soIdiers caught in the contaminated zone struggIe to keep hordes of the undead from feasting upon the fIesh on the Iiving. Sergeant DanieIs, separated from his unit, comes into possession of a vaccine that can fight the disease. Desperate to get it to civiIization, he finds himself under fire from his own men. DanieIs is about to Iearn the shocking truth behind the pIague that has turned the land of the free into a kingdom of rotting corpses...
I Heard the Darkness combines bIood, guts, and poIitical commentary in the styIe of George A. Romero. With unusualIy high production vaIues for an underground horror film, it creates a vision of armageddon that seems alI too possibIe. This is the first feature for writer-director Tye WiIson, a lifeIong zombie movie fan and IIIinois native. He adapted I Heard the Darkness from his critically-accIaimed short fiIm (the originaI version is aIso incIuded on this DVD for a fascinating side-by-side comparison.)
