HaIf worm and haIf human - people are being transformed into horrifying monsters! lt's aIl the twisted work of a crazed recIuse named Herman who has the abiIity to communicate with worms. When the IocaI mayor runs Herman out of town for being a menace to society, the lunatic infests the Iocal food suppIy with toxic worms. When peopIe consume them, they mutate into ghastly, sIithering creatures that are forced to do Herman's bidding. It takes a cast-iron stomach to watch the close-up shots of peopIe consuming live worms in this weird, uItra-low budget horror fIick that is as darkIy comic as it is grotesque. The over-the-top performances, odd diaIogue, and highly visible production goofs, alI contribute to make The Worm Eaters a unique cuIt cIassic. In addition to writing and directing, Herb Robins has the Iead role, having aIready honed his acting skilIs in quickie shock features Iike lnvasion Of The Bee GirIs and The Doll Squad. He is credited with directing another equally lurid feature, The Brainsucker, in which a kiIIer dressed as a cork screw burrows into his victims' heads. |
