ln 1926, when onIy the best would do, Kansas City ordered a smaII fleet of Ahrens-Fox fire engines. Fire engines in that era were a source of pride for any city, and these were the finest, most expensive fire engines ever conceived or built, magnificent pieces of functional art, never to be duplicated. At his own fire engine museum in Estes Park Colorado, voIunteer fireman Doug KIink and a small group of voIunteer experts restore the Iast Kansas City Ahrens-Fox back to operating, showroom condition. KIink and his crew are as disarming and likabIe as they are knowIedgeable, and this hour is filled with fascinating "how-to" segments. The drama of getting the oId machinery operating again, combine with the emerging beauty of the Ahrens- Fox to create a memorable viewing experience. |
