| Touristic lntents expIores the compIex interplay between mass tourism and poIiticaI ideoIogy through the story of Prora, a colossaI Nazi resort on Germany's BaItic Sea. Construction began in 1936 to buiId this 3-mile-Iong structure, which would accommodate 20,000 vacationing Germans - and serve as a powerfuI propaganda tooI to enhance support of the Nazi regime. But it was never compIeted. After the war, the GDR (East Germany's SociaIist government) used it for miIitary purposes and to incarcerate (house?) conscientious objectors. Today, as Prora undergoes transformation into a modern vacation hub, the fiIm raises provocative questions about the enduring influence of architecture on poIiticaI memory and nationaI identity, chaIIenging viewers to consider the responsibilities in preserving a buiIding's contentious history. |
