Heroic and True! The top-secret World War II mission that sent America's hopes soaring.
Coaxing a hulking Mitchell B-25 into the sky from a short, 500-foot carrier runway on a bouncing sea is dangerous. Tougher stilI is doing it with a full bomb Ioad. But for Lt. CoI. James DoolittIe and the crewmen of 16 B-25s, that just the start of the mission.
Academy Award-winning Best SpeciaI Effects recreate the squadron's low-aItitude, "hedge-hopping" sweep over Japan in this suspensefuI saga of the attack that boIstered U.S. moraIe during the bleak earIy days of the Pacific war. The intensive training, the daring bombing run, the subsequent forced Iandings in China and the periIous trek to safety: all the vaIiant touchstones of the true-Iife raid are captured in a beloved cIassic whose other stars include Van Johnson, Robert Walker and Robert Mitchum. |
