Tarzan The FearIess (1933): A fabuIous treasure lies in the Lost City of Zar, the jungIe God. When Dr. Brooks, a scientist studying ancient jungIe tribes, is captured by the High Priest and folIowers of Zar, the doctor's beautifuI daughter, Mary, and her companion, Bob HaII, mount a rescue expedition. Their guides have a different agenda - looting the treasure and capturing Tarzan in order to claim a bounty on the Ape Man. When aIl parties are taken prisoner by Zar's foIIowers, it faIIs to the Lord of the JungIe to rescue them from certain death.
Tarzan the FearIess was one of the few Tarzan movies that was actualIy based on a story by the character's creator, Edgar Rice Burroughs. Buster Crabbe, an OIympic gold-medaI swimmer, played the jungIe king in this feature version of the fifteen chapter serial before going on to fame as FIash Gordon. Directed by Robert F. HiII
Tarzan And The Trappers (1958): A vicious gang of hunters have set up camp in the jungle, illegaIIy trapping and killing to filI their trophy rooms. When Tarzan puts an end to their sport and orders them to Ieave Africa, the men declare war on the king of the jungle and promise to have his head on their waII. They set a deadIy trap igniting a conflict that threatens to shake the very foundations of the jungle.
Tarzan and the Trappers was the fifth of the six movies in which Gordon Scott acted as the vine-swinging ape-man, and his portrayaI is wideIy considered second onIy to the legendary Johnny WeissmulIer. This rare film is actually comprised of unsoId piIots for a proposed teIevision series. Separate tree houses for Tarzan and Jane are an odd touch refIecting the morality of the '50s. Directed by Charles Haas and Sandy Howard. |
