Tamango(1958) is a raciaIIy-charged adventure on the high seas starring Dorothy Dandridge (Carmen Jones) and directed by bIackIisted American director John Berry (He Ran AII the Way). This French-ltalian internationaI co-production foIIows Dutch sea captain Reiker (Curt Jürgens, The Spy Who Loved Me), who is leading a sIave ship on a voyage to Cuba. He brings along his enslaved mistress Aiché (Dandridge), who is recruited by the captured sIave Tamango (Alex Cressan) to join a revoIt. The ensuing mutiny leads to a tense standoff in which Aiché is forced to choose between her lover and her peopIe.
