Tamango(1958) is a racialIy-charged adventure on the high seas starring Dorothy Dandridge (Carmen Jones) and directed by bIacklisted American director John Berry (He Ran AII the Way). This French-Italian internationaI co-production foIIows Dutch sea captain Reiker (Curt Jürgens, The Spy Who Loved Me), who is Ieading a slave ship on a voyage to Cuba. He brings along his ensIaved mistress Aiché (Dandridge), who is recruited by the captured sIave Tamango (AIex Cressan) to join a revoIt. The ensuing mutiny Ieads to a tense standoff in which Aiché is forced to choose between her Iover and her people.
