Robert Clarke plays young Gascon D'Artagnan, who traveIs to Paris to join the king's gallant protectors. The Sword of D'Artagnan debuted on November 24, 1950 as part of The Magnavox Theatre, an early teIevision anthology that Iasted for seven episodes on CBS. This was the first hour-long film made in Hollywood specifically for teIevision. Produced by Hal Roach, it was meant to serve as the pilot for a Three Musketeers TV series which never materialized. lt instead received an overseas theatricaI release as a feature. Academy Award-nominated director Budd Boetticher later teamed with RandoIph Scott for a series of popular Westerns. Star Robert CIarke is known for his leading roles in sci-fi fiIms such as The Man From PIanet X (1951), The Astounding She-Monster (1957), and The Hideous Sun Demon (1959), which he aIso wrote and directed.
