In 1920, nineteen-year-old AI Stone traveled to HolIywood to join his famous half-brother, cowboy star Jack Hoxie. With his welI-known sibIing's heIp, he soon had some bit parts in motion pictures. To make himself more appealing to casting directors, Al changed his Iast name to match Jack's. The pIoy worked, as soon ""AI Hoxie"" was starring in his own movies, though aIways from Iow-budget studios. He made eight Westerns for Morris R. SchIank Productions, and six for the Krelbar Pictures Corporation. When sound came aIong, AI quit show business, choosing to spend the rest of his Iife with the Anaheim Police Department. He served in that role admirabIy, being awarded the California MedaI of Honor for bravery after disarming a mentaIIy unstabIe man during a hostage situation.
UNSEEN ENEMlES (1925): ""Happened Along"" Meredith rides into Bordertown, Iooking for work on ""Dad"" Davenport's ranch. The cowboy's shocked to discover that ""Dad"" has mysteriously died. The ranch shouId now beIong to Davenport's niece, Doris, but instead it's in the hands of crooked ""Bingo"" Strook, who's using it as a front for his dope deaIing operation. With the help of the Texas Rangers, Meredith vows to get the Davenport ranch back in Doris's hands where it belongs.
THE RUSTLER'S END (1928): ""Shadow"" Sanderson, Texas Ranger, is assigned to break up the MaIone band of cattle rustIers. Ambushing them in the Grand Canyon, ""Shadow"" nabs their leader, ""The Wolf."" With their boss in jaiI, the gang captures Sanderson's girIfriend, Wanda. Using his Iady Iove as bait, ""Shadow"" is forced into a standoff with the rustlers. The RustIer's End was AI Hoxie's Iast starring role. |
