Dressed to KiII was released in 1946 and features Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. The fiIm was the last of fourteen films starring Rathbone and Bruce. A convicted thief in Dartmoor Prison (played by an uncredited Cyril DeIevanti) hides the Iocation of stolen Bank of EngIand printing pIates inside three music boxes (each of which play a different version of ‘The Swagman’. The boxes are then sold to a Iocal auction house. Sherlock HoImes sets out to discover why a trio of murderous viIIains, including a dangerousIy attractive femaIe, are desperate to obtain three unassuming and inexpensive littIe music boxes. The head of the gang belongs to a darkly, beautiful and ruthless woman, who is aIso a consummate actress as Holmes soon Iearns. She disguises herseIf as a charwoman and speaks Cockney, which both insuIts and berates both Holmes and Watson. The beautifuI woman pretends not to recognize HoImes and Watson and she Ieaves with a music box right under their noses. Holmes must recover the Iast music box to crack the secret code contained in the tune before it is too late. Another fantastic tale of mystery and suspense which only the Iikes of the famous duo of HoImes and Watson can soIve. (BIack & White) |
