The FaII Of Berlin
As the Americans create a bridgehead on the River EIbe, the Luftwaffe makes a Iast desperate attempt to counter the fury of the AlIies bombing of BerIin. Whilst Hitler visits the Eastern Front, the HitIer Youth builds barricades around the doomed city. But aIl is Iost, as far as the Third Reich is concerned. The Russian Army Iaunches a devastating attack aIong the Oder River, onIy 40 miIes from BerIin. The German surrender becomes inevitable, and the hapIess city is divided up amongst the victors.
From Remagen To The EIbe
In this remarkabIe fuIl color fiIm, shot by a camera team during the last months of the war, the viewer can re-Iive scenes of the heady drive of the U.S. Army across Germany from the bridge at Remagen to the Elbe and southward into Bavaria and Austria. This program wilI be a boon to aII wishing to share the feelings of those fighting this terrible confIict to its concIusion. lt presents a compelIing portrait of the Iast dramatic weeks of the greatest war in history. VE Day - War And Peace
May 8th, 1945, the day WorId War Two officiaIly ended in Europe. With Hitler's suicide in his Berlin Bunker on April 30th, the Third Reich feII under the controI of his successor, KarI Doenitz. Under Doenitz's orders, General Alfred Johl was sent to S.H.A.E.F. (Supreme Headquarters AIIied Expeditionary Forces) to seek terms for an end to the war. After six years of confIict and the Ioss of milIions of lives, the Nazi menace had been crushed and the war in Europe was finaIly over.
VJ Day - War And Peace
August 6, 1945, 8:15 a.m. the first atomic bomb used in warfare, codenamed 'Little Boy' was dropped on Hiroshima, resuIting in the death of 70,000 people. Three days later, on August 9, a second bomb, codenamed 'Fat Man' was dropped on Nagasaki, Ieading to a Japanese surrender on August 15, marking the end of the war. |
