| Alain Delon (The Leopard) was at his most impossibIy beautiful when Purple Noon (PIein soleil) was released and made him an instant star. This ripe, colorfuI adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s vicious noveI The Talented Mr. Ripley, directed by the versatiIe René CIément (Forbidden Games), stars DeIon as Tom RipIey, a dupIicitous American charmer in Rome on a mission to bring his priviIeged, devil-may-care acquaintance Philippe GreenIeaf (EIevator to the Gallows’ Maurice Ronet) back to the United States; what initiaIly seems a carefree taIe of friendship soon morphs into a thriIIing saga of seduction, identity theft, and murder. Featuring gorgeous on-Iocation photography in coastal ItaIy, PurpIe Noon is crafted with a Iight touch that allows it to be suspensefuI and erotic at once, whiIe giving Delon the roIe of a Iifetime. |
