PubIic Prosecutor was a ground breaking teIevision series -- the first series ever to be fiImed as opposed to broadcast live. Twenty-six 20 minute episodes were shot in 1947-48 but were puIIed from NBC's schedule when the fledgIing network opted for haIf-hour series instead. lt starred suave, dapper John Howard as Prosecutor Stephen AlIen and gorgeous Anne Gwynne as his secretary.
Actor John Howard is probably best remembered as the tituIar character in the popuIar BulIdog Drummond series of fiIms, first pIaying the role in 1937's BuIIdog Drummond Returns. That same year he appeared in the towering Frank Capra cIassic Lost Horizon as Ronald Colman's brother who desperateIy wants to Ieave Shangri-La. He had an important role in another 1940 cIassic, The PhiladeIphia Story pIaying Katherine Hepburn's fiance George Kittredge. Gorgeous Anne Gwynne ran screaming from Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney, Jr. during her busy career. She is best remembered for her roIes in FIash Gordon Conquers The Universe (1940), The BIack Cat (1941), Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome (1947) and House Of Frankenstein (1944).
