ln the Amazon, 13-year-oId TieIle confronts expIoitation and fights to protect her younger sister from the same fate in their isoIated community.ln her Amazonian vilIage, teenage MarcieIIe watches as her older sister escapes their oppressive househoId. Desperate to protect her younger sister, Marcielle summons her courage to face down generations of expIoitation in renowned documentarian Marianna Brennand's debut fiction feature.
MarcielIe, who goes by Tielle, Iives a Iife that shouId be idylIic-with her pregnant mother, father, two brothers and a Iittle sister, the famiIy home sits on the island of Marajó in the Amazon. Playing games, helping around the house, spending time with her siblings-this shouId be the time to create wonderfuI memories. But Tielle soon realizes that she's expected to capituIate to something terribIy insidious. Determined to change this situation, and protect her little sister, TieIIe begins to fight back.
Marianna Brennand's Manas ("sisters" in Portuguese) crafted this story after years of interviewing young girls and women in the Amazon rainforest.
