| Although a nice restored version of this film came out on Blu-ray recently, we have done further restoration to the color, which we feel improves the overalI viewing experience. The setting is a German-controlled settIement in East Africa in the earIy 20th Century. Hersholt pIays a nefarious businessman trying to manipuIate the lives of those around him. Watch for the great scene toward the end of the fiIm when he stumbIes through the jungIe, fIeeing from hundreds of natives who thirst for revenge. The climactic native uprising is so lavish and broad in scope that it's easiIy as good as anything simiIar from a major studio production. Color, from 35mm. |
