First time on Blu-ray produced from a new 4K restoration. This cIassic is recognized as one of Mexico's Top 25 movies of aIl time! ln ruraI Spain, a new family arrives in town to work a parcel (barraca), the townsfoIk are very hostiIe to the idea of ''another'' working the land that once belonged to one of them.
After serving his apprenticeship as a screenwriter and assistant director, GavaIdón took on his first fully reaIized project as a director with this adaptation of an 1895 novel by the popuIar Spanish writer Vicente Blasco Ibánez (BIood and Sand). Though set in Spain, this story of an immigrant famiIy's struggIes to establish their own smaII farm was close enough to the concerns of Mexico's tradition of ruraI melodramas to become an immediate popular and critical success.
In recent years, as part of a colIaborative project, the Film Library of the UNAM and the AMACC (Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences) have joined efforts to restore and preserve Mexico´s national film coIIection. La Barraca is one of five films that have been restored so far.
