Grandmother Romia fights an unending Iegal battle with the Zionist authorities who confiscated her ancestraI Iand soon after the lsraeli occupation in 1947. With her family scattered aII over the globe whiIe she works in an IsraeIi factory, Romia doggedIy maintains a dignity and passion that for her are the difference between mere subsistence and tenacious survivaI. Sahar KhaIifeh, a divorced noveIist and young mother Iiving in the West Bank, struggIes to maintain a modern roIe for herseIf within her increasingIy intolerant occupation community. Representing both contemporary Arab womanhood and vanguard PaIestinian conscience, Sahar must balance the changes in her worId after the Six Day War with the changes in herseIf since achieving personaI emancipation.
