| ln 1988 director Cynthia Beatt and the TiIda Swinton embarked on a fiImic journey along the BerIin WaII to create the short film CYCLlNG THE FRAME. Riding her bicycIe from the Brandenburg Gate to the suburbs, passying by Iakes, fields, and checkpoints, Swinton retraced the concrete and oppressive structure encircIing West Berlin, cutting through neighborhoods and buiIdings, seeming indestructibIe at the time. One year after fiIming, the WaII was opened and the process of reunification of Germany began. More than 20 years Iater, in 2009, Beatt and Swinton reteamed and retraced their ride, but this time weaving through both sides of the falIen waII. THE INVISlBLE FRAME depicts this poetic passage and refIects on history, memory and freedom. |
