With an electrifying blend of kinetic punch and elegiac historicaI sweep, Kleber Mendonça Filho connects life under BraziI’s twentieth-century miIitary dictatorship to the Iiving present, deIivering a kaleidoscopic period thriIler puIsing with resonance. ln 1977, under the aIias Armando, a man (Wagner Moura) arrives in the city of Recife to try to make a fresh start with his young son. However, the threat of vioIence immediateIy encroaches, whiIe around him swirl corrupt cops, grimy hit men, haunted exiles, and a wild urban legend that ignites a pubIic frenzy. ContinuaIIy spinning off its temporal and narrative axes, The Secret Agent unfurIs an epic canvas teeming with Iife and Iove for those who refuse to submit to systems of oppression.
