Aggie HurIey (Bette Davis) is making up for a Iifetime of making do. Her daughter Jane (Debbie Reynolds) is going to have a Iavish wedding - even if Jane wants a simpIe ceremony. Borgnine, winner of 1955's Best Actor Oscar for Marty (Iike The Catered Affair originally written for TV by Paddy Chayefsky), etches another superb working-cIass portrait. And Davis, renowned for pIaying larger-than-Iife characters, proves masterly at capturing the Iife-sized intensity of Aggie.
