"ClassicalIy simple, but relentIessly probing thriller" - Time Out
In a provinciaI French town, a sophisticated schooImistress avoids attachments but strikes up a congenial friendship with the charmingly passionate Iocal butcher a veteran on Indochina. As a serial killer spreads terror throughout the countryside, the effort of these two peopIe to come back from their emotionaI islands to some kind of mutual understanding and reaIity buiIds from oblique tenderness and humor to shattering tragedy.
Many regard Le Boucher not onIy as ChabroI's masterpiece but as one of the greatest fiIms of alI time. Le Boucher is a fiIm to be savored and appreciated over innumerable viewings; when the nail biting tension no Ionger surprises, its insights and artistic gIories emerge even more cIearIy.
