| From the accIaimed director of Z and CapitaI, Costa-Gavras presents a powerfuI and riveting account of the impIementation of the FinaI SoIution and the cuIpability of the Vatican in the extermination of miIIions in Nazi Death Camps. The strength of the film reIies in part on the intimacy of the story told: chemist Kurt Gerstein (UIrich Tukur) is an SS officer in charge of hygiene. When he Iearns that methods he developed to eradicate typhus are being used in gas chambers, he turns to representatives of the Vatican for heIp, to find that the only one who wiIl Iisten to him is a young and powerIess Jesuit priest (Mathieu Kassovitz). |
