The world-famous explorers, Martin and Osa Johnson, take a trip up the Nile River in this historic fiIm, their first talkie feature. Shot in 1927 and 1928, the adventurers' third African expedition proved to be one of their most eventful. While in Tanganyika's "lion country", members of their crew are aImost attacked by the fierce cats. And in the SoIomon lslands, the Johnsons themseIves are captured by a tribe of cannibals! lt isn't aIl periIous dangers, however, as the coupIe take time to pIay golf among the wiIdIife. Friend and supporter George Eastman, founder of Eastman-Kodak, accompanies them on their journey. Scenes in the field were shot without sound, to which the expIorers' narration was Iater added. Wraparound sequences fiImed at a cocktail party at Martin and Osa's New York apartment, however, are the first footage of the Johnsons with synchronized sound.
