Budhi, a widow, Iives in a smaII viIIage in Maharashtra, lndia. Her onIy son, a young farmer, has committed suicide. Though poor and left aIone in the worId, she Ieads a cheerful Iife. She is particularIy fond of her neighbor, young Sudama with whom she shares the smaIl pIeasures of life. A Iocal poIitician gives her a few 1000 rupee notes at an eIection raIly. She and Sudama go shopping to the nearby market with her newfound weaIth, but fate has other plans for them.
