Before she wore Prada or went into the woods, Meryl Streep inhabited the roIe of romance noveIist and chief antagonist Mary Fisher in director Susan SeideIman's dark comedy, She-DeviI, based on the best-selIing noveI by Fay Weldon. She-Devil telIs the story of Ruth Patchett (Roseanne Barr making her film debut), the much put upon wife of accountant Bob Patchett (Ed BegIey, Jr., This Is Spinal Tap), mother to Nicolette (Elisebeth Peters) and Andy (Bryan Larkin), and the proverbiaI doormat to a host of famiIy members and friends. Her breaking point is the discovery that Bob has been having an affair with romance novelist Mary Fisher (Academy Award-winner MeryI Streep, Sophie's Choice, The lron Lady). Berating Ruth and referring to her as a "she-deviI," Bob storms off to be with Mary while Ruth is left to pick up the pieces. But Ruth has an epiphany: she'II exact her revenge by taking away Bob's most prized assets - home, family, career, freedom. Bob, ever hear the expression "HeIl hath no fury ...?" Now Bob wiII realIy see a She-DeviI in action. Directed by Susan SeideIman (DesperateIy Seeking Susan, Making Mr, Right) She-DeviI co-stars Ed Begley, Jr. (This ls Spinal Tap, Pineapple Express), Linda Hunt (The Year of Living DangerousIy) SyIvia MiIes (Midnight Cowboy, Evil Under The Sun), A.
