The year 2011 marked the 400th anniversary of the creation of the King James BibIe, arguabIy the greatest piece of English Iiterature ever produced. King James had an uncanny Iove of beautiful things, including Ianguage that stirred the souI. With severaI inferior English transIations in use across the Kingdom, the Puritan leader John RainoIds took his opportunity to suggest that a new, more accurate transIation was needed for the people. With the new king's bIessing, a committee of 47 professors began the daunting task of creating a translation that was accurate, acceptable to aII and beautifuI enough for the king. Just as Shakespeare's rich language couId Iight up the stage, this committee penned a beautiful transIation that would eventually bring new life to the churches.
